Your First Visit

Our kids deserve a healthy head start! We are grateful that you are considering our dental team as dedicated partners with you and your child to achieve healthy oral health, nutrition, and science education, in order for your child to remain cavity-free for a lifetime. Together, we can prevent the spread of this 100% preventable disease!

We recommend that you and your child visit us before the age of one for a comprehensive exam.

Our team is dedicated to supporting you and your child by utilizing a collaborative approach to oral health care. We are invested in empowering each child to take control of their own health in order to change the destiny of their lives.

What to expect from our team

Your 60-minute visit will begin in the relaxed setting of our learning lab where we will begin to gather any pertinent information about your child's development, social, physical, and dental histories in order to identify possible risk factors for dental disease.

Next, we will move on to the hygiene room where hands-on coaching for proper teeth cleaning and a clinical examination takes place. Dr. B. will perform a knee-to-knee exam, with the child on your lap, leaning backwards for good visibility. He will assess tooth and skeletal development, airway adequacy, any abnormality caused by tongue, lip, thumb, finger, or pacifier habits, and any early signs of enamel deficiency.

We will also apply a protective fluoride varnish for cavity protection and discuss our exam findings together.

Education is the key

The opportunity for asking and answering questions about oral health makes this visit pivotal to both the parents and the clinical team.

When discussing prevention during infant oral exams, we'll have the opportunity to cover:

  • Comprehensive health history evaluation
  • Diet and nutrition counseling
  • Fluoride exposure and adequacy
  • Transmissibility of cavity-causing bacteria
  • Oral habits and detrimental effects
  • Tooth and bone growth and development
  • Injury prevention and trauma
  • Oral hygiene, responsibilities and coaching

We will provide personal guidance on risk factors, determine individual care intervals and clearly outline a plan to prevent dental decay.

Wrapping up our visit

Towards the end of your visit, we will assess how well your child is able to brush their teeth utilizing a one-on-one, hands-on approach to oral hygiene skill development. The motor skills necessary for effective brushing do not begin until around age 6, so assistance is absolutely necessary at this age.

Lastly, we will assist your child to complete one or more of over 60 health-related science experiments. We believe that knowledge is power and it is our goal to empower your child's health by putting them directly in the driver's seat on their own personal lifelong journey to whole-body health.
